ICPSRThe Wallace Library is now an institutional member of the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research. ICPSR maintains and provides access to a vast archive of datasets in the social sciences and related disciplines.

The archive provides raw numerical data that can be used with statistical software, such as SPSS. In addition to the general archive, a number of special topic archives, including the Health and Medical Care Archive (HMCA), Child Care and Early Education (Research Connections), Data Preservation Alliance for the Social Sciences (Data-PASS), Data Sharing for Demographic Research (DSDR), the International Archive of Education Data (IAED), the Minority Data Resource Center (MDRC), the National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA), the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD), Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) are all available on the ICPSR web site.

A Data Use Tutorial will give you a brief overview before you begin using the archive. And the ICPSR Online Learning Center provides data-driven learning guides that "supplement undergraduate social science coursework with learning exercises using actual ICPSR data."

All Wheaton faculty, students, and staff have access to the extensive ICPSR data holdings. First time users will be asked to create an ICPSR MyData account; thereafter, you will need to login with your email address and password to download data.
