The next shoot for Wheaton InFocus will take place at the Lyon's Den. We're still working out the details, but it looks as though we'll be visiting the coffeehouse during an upcoming open mic night for students. I'm looking forward to some good music and lots of java.
The cool thing about the Lyon's Den, though, has more to do with how it came to be and how it's run. Nick Langman and Mike Bettencourt, members of the class of 1998, put forward a proposal to renovate an old diner the college owned on the edge of campus and turn it into a student-run coffeehouse. They made a compelling case. Wheaton not only agreed but also kicked in some support for the renovation. Nick and Mike made the business their senior project in economics.
Ten years later, the Lyon's Den is still running strong, entirely on student initiative.
