MUSIC MAN: KURT'S STORY

Kurt Peterson plans to pursue a career in music after graduation. He already works as a singer/songwriter, taking gigs at local coffeehouses and clubs, both on campus and off. He has a MySpace music page and two CDs to his credit, too. But he values the broad liberal arts education that Wheaton offers.

ON A SOUND TRACK: "A well-rounded education is valuable for any musician, as music takes on many meanings, purposes, and subjects. I use a lot of what I've learned in classes outside of my major to develop new ideas and add new meanings to my music."

HARMONIC CONVERGENCE: "I moved to Los Angeles for three months last summer to intern for the Gorfaine-Schwartz Agency, which primarily represents soundtrack composers. I sort of jumped around helping whichever composer needed help. I worked with Mike Post, who has composed soundtracks for television shows such as Law and Order. Other clients that I worked on projects for included John Williams and Hans Zimmer."

INSTRUMENTAL OPPORTUNITIES: "The agency where I worked was in Burbank, Calif., just outside of Los Angeles. Knowing that I needed to get back to Wheaton at the end of the summer, I decided that I might as well drive back, since it would be a great experience and another adventure under my belt. I found a 1969 VW Bug for sale in Malibu, and I bought it to make the 3,400 mile journey. It took about nine days to get from L.A. to Wheaton, and I made some great memories along the way."
