HISP 355: Voyages, Navigations and Shipwrecks.

This is an advanced course that introduces students to the reading and textual analysis of Early Modern Spanish literature of voyages in combination with Early Modern Cartography. The course offers a scholarly approach inclusive of Humanities Computing tools and resources. Among the primary sources of study are Fernández de Oviedo´s books Libro de los Infortunios y Naufragios(Seville in 1535), Libro xx de la General Historia de las Indias (Valladolid 1557); and Antonio Pigafetta’s book, Primer viaje alrededor del mundo (1536).
