Visits by Appointment Only.
Please Call 508-286-5400 to Schedule an Appointment.
Norton Medical Center is a privately owned and operated neighborhood clinic located on campus. Our goal is to provide the highest quality health care to Wheaton students, as well as to residents of Norton and surrounding communities. The following information is provided so that we can work together to meet your health care needs. Please feel free to contact any member of our staff for additional information.
Scheduling Appointments
We do our best to schedule same day appointments that are convenient for you but, as NMC is an extremely busy facility, calling early to schedule an appointment is key. If an appointment is not available with one of our physicians, you may be offered an appointment with one of our nurse practitioners who work very closely with our doctors to provide excellent care to our clients. If you require further treatment, you will be referred to the many specialists in the area that can provide you with the medical attention that you need. Most appointments are 15 minutes long, which is usually enough time to address your primary concern. If you have more issues, please plan on addressing them in a second visit.
Canceling Appointments
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible so that we may give that appointment to another student who may be in need of care.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
You should arrive for your appointment ten minutes early in order to complete the registration process. You'll be asked for your insurance card and contact information.
Billing Information
Norton Medical Center has a unique arrangement with Wheaton College: all students, no matter their health insurance (Wheaton or personal), are seen free of charge at Norton Medical Center during the academic year. Office visits from the close of the academic year through mid- August are charged to a student's insurance. Norton Medical Center will bill a student's insurance company for all labwork performed (blood draws, urine cultures, throat cultures, pap smears). In addition, a student's insurance will be billed for procedures such as wart removal, ear irrigation, and some immunizations.
PLEASE NOTE: It is extremely important for Norton Medical Center to have your complete insurance information as you will be responsible for any deductibles/charges incurred. NMC providers are not contracted with all insurance companies (e.g., Out-of-State BCBS, Kaiser) and charges incurred may not be covered until a deductible has been met. Contact your insurance representative to confirm deductible, participating providers, and plan coverage.
Signed Releases
Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Norton Medical Center requires a signed consent form in order to discuss your medical condition/treatment with another party. Norton Medical Center respects your right to confidentiality and privacy. If you would like to complete a release of information form, please contact Cynthia Maricle, Student Health Services Coordinator, at 508-286-8210.
On-Call Coverage
Our physicians are part of a larger network of Sturdy Hospital providers who provide on-call coverage 24/7. If you require medical care after regular business hours, call 508-286-5400. Your call will be forwarded to an answering service. The answering service will page the covering physician who will return your call promptly.
Absence Notes
In collaboration with Wheaton College, absence notes will not be provided. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact Cynthia Maricle, Student Health Services Coordinator, at 508-286-8210.
