WHEATON ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN

The Accident and Sickness plan (view brochure) is a comprehensive health insurance policy which fulfills state law requirements by providing coverage for:

  • visits to the on-campus health clinic, Norton Medical Center, as well as Sturdy Memorial Hospital and other local providers in MA
  • diagnostic testing
  • lab services
  • prescription drugs
  • mental health services
  • emergency services

Features of the Wheaton Student Accident and Sickness plan include:

  1. 12 months of coverage from August 6, 2009 to August 5, 2010.
  2. Coverage while traveling abroad.
  3. A $20.00 copay for most visits (visits at the on-campus health clinic, Norton Medical Center, are free).
  4. No deductible.
  5. Use as a student's primary insurance plan or, for added coverage and convenience, use as a student's secondary insurance in conjunction with a student's primary personal insurance.

All students are automatically enrolled in the Wheaton Accident and Sickness health insurance plan. If you determine that your personal health insurance plan provides comparable coverage (coverage that is equal to or more extensive than that listed in the first paragraph above) to the Wheaton plan and you wish to waive the Wheaton insurance, please visit the Gallagher Koster website at gallagherkoster.com to submit an on-line waiver form. The waiver process is operational beginning the second week of June for first semester students and the first week in December for second semester students.

If you decide to waive the Wheaton Insurance, please note that certain health insurance plans, such as out-of-state Medicaid and several other out-of-state policies (e.g., Kaiser), do not provide comparable coverage to the Wheaton plan. If you belong to such a plan, Massachusetts law requires that you participate in the health insurance plan offered by Wheaton College. To assist you in comparing health insurance policies, the Wheaton Accident and Sickness brochure and answers to frequently asked questions regarding Wheaton Insurance are available online at gallagherkoster.com

To inquire about enrolling in or waiving the Wheaton Accident and Sickness plan after the deadline has passed, please contact Student Financial Services at 508.286.8232.

OPTIONAL SUPPLEMENTAL ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS EXPENSE BENEFIT

Students enrolled in the Accident and Sickness plan (above) are eligible to purchase an Optional Supplemental Accident and Sickness Expense Benefit that provides coverage over over and above that provided by the Wheaton Accident and Sickness plan. This supplemental plan provides coverage after the $50,000 maximum per Accident and Sickness per policy year has been met under the Wheaton Accident and Sickness plan and extends the maximum benefit per Accident and Sickness to $250,000.

Interested students must purchase this optional benefit by August 6, 2009 for annual coverage or by January 28, 2010 for spring semester coverage. For more information on coverage, premium, and enrollment procedures, contact the Gallagher Koster Insurance Agency at 1-800-457-5599.
