In affiliation with IFSA Butler, students are fully integrated into campus life and have access to all departments and classes at La Universidad Nacional Autonoma (UNA) in Heredia and la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) in San Jose. UNA, with 15,000 students, offers a full curriculum of undergraduate courses including Latin American Studies, Sociology, Economics, Business, Environmental Studies, Ecology, and Marine Biology. UCR is the oldest university in the country; with some 30,000 students, it offers over 100 major subjects. Costa Rica's history, development as a democracy and commitment to social justice and human rights make it an attractive place to study abroad.
Locations
Universidad Nacional Autónoma is located in Heredia, a beautiful city of 74,000 with a laid-back atmosphere, situated a few miles from the capital city of San José. The Universidad de Costa Rica is located in San José itself, a city of 325,000 that is made up of both peaceful colonial-era neighborhoods and a bustling downtown. San José is the center for Costa Rican cultural life, and offers good nightlife and shopping venues.

Program Dates
Academic Year - August to May; Fall Semester: August to December; Spring Semester: January to May
Courses & Credits
Students enroll in five to six courses each semester. A mandatory Advanced Spanish Language course may be combined with special program courses taught in Spanish and university courses. 15 to 16 U.S. semester hours earns 4.0 Wheaton credits.
Admission Requirements
Juniors with a minimum GPA – 3.0. Two years of college level Spanish or the equivalent. All courses are taught in Spanish.
Housing & Board
Students live with families and are provided three meals per day. Fees: Wheaton Comprehensive Fees. Expenses include Tuition, Room and Board.
Other Expenses
Students are responsible for $500 Administrative fee, passport and visa fees, local transportation, books and supplies, required supplemental study abroad insurance and personal expenses.
