Profile
Established in 1950, the IES Vienna program offers a rigorous academic program for students that desire to study in a German-speaking country. Courses are taught in English or German and focus on European history, culture, and politics. Opportunities for Music majors make this a unique study abroad experience.

Location
Vienna (pop.: 1.87 million) is the gateway between Eastern and Western Europe. This city is located along the picturesque Danube River. Students have easy access to the offerings of city life, with museums and opera houses, as well as to the Austrian Alps and the rest of Europe.

- Academic Year, Fall, or Spring semesters
Program Dates
Fall: August 16 - December 15, 2012 (late January departure for University courses)
Spring: mid January - mid May, 2013 TBA (early July deparutre for University courses)
Courses & Credit
Semester students enroll in a total of 15 – 19 semester hours (4-credit German language course and four 3-credit area studies courses taught in English or German), which earn 4.0 Wheaton credits. Academic Internships are available with prior approval from Wheaton faculty. Two programs are available: (1) IES Vienna Area Studies and Language Program and (2) IES Vienna Music Program.
Admission Requirements
Students with a minimum GPA of 3.2. Students taking courses in German must have four semesters or equivalent of content-level college German (fall or full year students). A language proficiency test must be taken on-site for placement into the advanced language program in order to take university courses.
Housing & Board
Students live in independent apartments, in apartments shared with an Austrian landlord, or in residence halls with Austrian students. Two or more IES students normally live together and roommate preferences are accommodated when possible. In the residence halls, students are housed in doubles with a shared bath.
Fees
Wheaton tuition and housing. Expenses covered include tuition, housing, one round-trip airfare from NY area or Boston to Vienna, resident permit, and some program related field trips.
Other Expenses
Students are responsible for $500 Administrative fee, passport fees, meals, domestic travel to overseas flight departure city, IES insurance, and personal expenses.
