Nearing the goal

Posted on May 19, 2011

The effort to complete fundraising for the Mars Center for Science and Technology has received a boost in the form of a challenge grant.

One of the donors to the project pledged an additional $200,000 to inspire other members of the Wheaton community to help the college reach its goal before June 30, 2011.

The college seeks to raise $30 million in gifts from alumnae/i, parents and friends for the project, which has a total cost of $42 million. Wheaton stands just $1.1 million short of the goal.

The 99,000 square foot project, which includes both the construction of a new three-story building and the renovation of the first floor of the existing Science Center, represents the most ambitious building project in Wheaton history.

Wheaton expects to pass a major milestone with the completion of the new building this summer. The college community will celebrate the opening of the facility on Friday, Sept. 23 as part of its Homecoming and Family Weekend. The renovation of the existing space is expected to be complete by the spring semester.

Expanding and enhancing the sciences is one of the key priorities of Go Beyond: Campaign for Wheaton.
