City Seminars, D.C.

Posted on December 17, 2010

National politics take center stage as Wheaton goes to Washington to celebrate the launch of Go Beyond: Campaign for Wheaton with a faculty seminar event at the Newseum.

The City Seminars series offers alumnae/i, parents and friends the opportunity to experience the college's unique curriculum. Professors Jay Goodman (political science) and Josh Stenger (English and film studies) will offer topical presentations that illustrate the ways teaching and learning at Wheaton today transcend the traditional boundaries that separate fields of study.

City Seminars/Washington, D.C., will be held at the Newseum’s Knight Conference Center in Washington on Saturday, February 5, 2011. Professor Goodman will speak on the topic, “Will Obama Be a One-Term President?”, looking at election and polling data to explore various scenarios for the 2012 presidential election. Professor Stenger’s seminar, “GOTV 2.0: The Social Media Tsunami and the 2010 ‘Wave’ Election,” will take a look at the way media such as Facebook, FourSquare, Twitter and Google are changing electoral politics and the ways that candidates get out the vote.

Those attending the seminar event will also have the opportunity to purchase discount tickets to the Newseum, an interactive museum of news history.

For additional information, and to register for the event, visit the college’s regional events page.
