Exhibition Designer Lends His Expertise

Posted on October 15, 2010

David Mayo, former Director of Exhibitions at the Fowler Museum, recently came to Wheaton to meet with students in Professor Leah Niederstadt’s "Exhibition Design" course. Mr. Mayo is an accomplished exhibition designer, having worked on over 120 international exhibitions.  During the class workshop, Mr. Mayo shared his wealth of knowledge about exhibition design, and advised students on how to best use the space of the Beard and Weil galleries for their upcoming exhibition project The Evolution of the Artist’s Book (opening December 5, 2010). Students were able to meet with Mr. Mayo for targeted feedback on their own exhibition designs, a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on advice from such an accomplished designer. Afterwards, ARTHive, Wheaton’s Art History club sponsored an informal Q&A with Mr. Mayo in the May Room. Mr. Mayo spoke engagingly to students about his career path, his professional experiences as a designer, and about the challenges facing museums in the future. We thank him for his generosity!
