Offices, facilities closed on Tuesday, March 14
Posted on March 13, 2017
Wheaton College offices and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, March 14, due to a major winter storm forecast for tomorrow.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning, forecasting as much as 12 inches of snow accompanied by heavy winds, with gusts up to 50 mph.
During the storm
Students who are staying on campus during spring break should plan to remain indoors during the storm on Tuesday. Given the heavy snowfall, pathways and stairs will be slippery and visibility is expected to be greatly reduced at times. Also, students should make sure that all windows and exterior doors in dorms are kept closed. Please remember that the use of candles is prohibited.
Library hours will be extended until 7 p.m. tonight (Monday, March 13) for students who wish to check out books, movies and other materials. Only the main entrance to the library will be open from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
This evening also would be the right time to ensure that your cell phones and other mobile devices are charged, in the event that the campus experiences a power outage due to the high winds and heavy, wet snow.
Most campus dining services are closed for spring break. Balfour-Hood Cafe, which would normally be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will not open on Tuesday.
Other facilities that are open during the break, including the Haas Athletic Center, Balfour-Hood Campus Center (including the Pappas Fitness Center) and the library, will be closed on Tuesday.
We encourage all students, faculty and staff to remain attentive to college email and to the website for updates. We want everyone to be safe.
All student vehicles should be parked in Lot #3 to aid in snow removal efforts.
Parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 p.m. on Monday, March 13 until further notice.
