The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning, forecasting as much as 12 inches of snow accompanied by bitter cold temperatures and heavy winds, with gusts up to 50 mph.

Dining services in Chase and other essential services will continue. Emerson and the Davis Spencer Cafe in the Mars Center will be closed on Thursday.

The Balfour-Hood Campus Center, including the cafe and the fitness center, will be open. The Wallace Library and the Haas Athletic Center will be open for normal hours of operation as well.

During the storm

Students should plan to remain indoors as much as possible and should take care when traveling across campus during the storm as pathways and stairs may be slippery and visibility may be greatly reduced at times. Also, students should make sure that all windows and exterior doors in dorms are kept closed, and keep cell phones and other mobile devices charged. Please remember that the use of candles is prohibited.

Public safety officials and other staff members will be in regular contact with Norton emergency officials as well as with the National Weather Service for updates. Check Wheaton’s emergency page to get the most up to date information.

The next scheduled update regarding the post-storm opening of campus will be Thursday evening.

We encourage all students, faculty and staff to remain attentive to our website for updates. We want everyone to be safe.

If there are any problems or safety issues, please contact Public Safety at 508-286-8213.
