Hispanic Studies 198. Experimental Courses
Spanish for Heritage Speakers
Spanish for Heritage Speakers is an intermediate course designed principally, but not exclusively, for heritage learners (native speakers of Spanish who have had basic or little Spanish training; these are generally students raised in Spanish-speaking homes). Linguistic goals include vocabulary acquisition, improvement in informal & academic writing, and enhancement of formal communicative skills. The course will also focus on specific content areas that impact the way Spanish in the US is perceived, such as bilingualism, US Latino literature and art, immigration, identity, ethnicity, human rights, education and representation of Latino culture in the media.
