English 101 Section B23. Writing about Identity
For many years, writing from one’s identity has been a source of empowerment. Identity distinguishes a person. Identity values what may not have been adequately valued before. But what if writing from identity becomes more like a box than a platform? What happens to someone when her or his identity is fluid? What about someone who feels lodged between traditional identities? What role does writing have in these situations? Can writing be used to actually invent a new identity?
Through writing practices and process, we will cover both formal and informal means of written expression. Students should expect lively discussion, exploratory writing and creative engagement with the writing process in its entirety.
