Biology 401. Senior Seminar
Fall 2011
Seminar on the Biology of Exercise
Many are aware of the importance of exercise these days. But more people should be exercising, and everyone should have a general knowledge of the biology of exercise. As a senior biology major, you may want to find out the most current understanding of various aspects of exercise biology. This includes the physiology of exercise involving the neuromuscular and the cardiovascular-respiratory systems, and the anatomical basis of physical activity, muscle contraction at the cellular or molecular level, the energy supply at the biochemical level, the genetic traits in different athletics, the mechanisms of performance enhancing drugs, the health benefits of and injuries caused by exercise, etc. Each student in this class will search the literature and share with the class the current status on certain topics of the biology of exercise after learning how to evaluate the information critically and to do Power Point presentations effectively.
