Lyons remain perfect through six matches with 8-1 triumph at SpringfieldSeptember 16, 2006 SPRINGFIELD, MA- Senior Jamie Weiss (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker School) and junior Maya Milic-Strkalj (Philadelphia, PA/Friends' Central School) remained unbeaten during singles play on the season Saturday afternoon, as the pair was double winners in the Wheaton College women's tennis team's 8-1 victory over conference foe Springfield College. The Lyons raised their overall record to 6-0 and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) mark to 2-0, while the Pride falls to 1-2 and 0-2, respectively. Weiss moved to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in third singles, while Milic-Strkalj improved to 5-0 following a 6-0, 6-1 triumph in the sixth spot. Rounding out the straight-set victories were junior Briana Jackson (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow), sophomore Oriana Federico (Andover, MA/Lawrence Academy) and freshman Katherine Knies (Purdys, NY/North Salem). Milic-Strkalj led a doubles sweep, joining sophomore Mallory Farmer (Washington, CT/The Gunnery) for an 8-0 decision in the third spot. Knies and Weiss won 8-2 in the top position, and Jackson alongside senior Darby McDermott (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Hackley School) collected an 8-3 victory at number two. Wheaton looks to keep its perfect record intact Tuesday afternoon against NEWMAC power Wellesley College.
