The Lyons dropped to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the Engineers improved to 13-5 and 5-0, clinching its 10th outright NEWMAC regular season title in the league's 10-year history. The Lyons fell twice in doubles by an 8-2 final, their closest showing during the opening portion of the match. In singles, freshman Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) had Wheaton's top showing, winning his opening set at number four, 6-4 against junior Peden Nichols (Great Falls, VA/Thomas Jefferson) before dropping the final two sets, 6-3 and 10-3. At fifth singles, junior Nii Manfoi Davies (Town & Country, MO/The Principia) held close with his opponent before dropping a 7-5 decision in the first set and ultimately coming up short in the second set. With the NEWMAC regular season complete, the Lyons have earned the fourth seed for the upcoming league tournament and will host a first-round match. Wheaton opposes fifth-seeded United States Coast Guard Academy on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The Blue and White took the team's regular season meeting, 6-3 in Norton on April 5.
