Wheaton swimming teams earn CSCAA academic honors

August 3, 2005

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming teams have each been selected to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-Academic teams for the 2005 spring semester. In addition, sophomore Barrett Roberts (Portland, ME/Deering) garnered CSCAA All-Academic individual honors for the second consecutive year.

The CSCAA recognizes collegiate swimming programs at all levels that have attained a team grade-point average of 2.8 or higher. One of 68 NCAA Division III swimming teams honored, the Wheaton women registered a team GPA of 3.16 last semester, while the men posted a 3.09 mark. The men were one of 44 programs recognized by the CSCAA.

Roberts, who became the school's first swimmer in the 14-year history of the program to earn NCAA All-America laurels at the 2005 national championship held at Hope College, was among 41 Division III men's swimmers to pick up individual honors. Roberts, a freestyle specialist, recorded a 3.64 grade-point average.

Both swimming teams are led by third-year head coach Jean-Paul Gowdy.
