Wheaton women capture 179-117 victory over Smith in dual swim meetDecember 11, 2004 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's swimming and diving team scored its sixth victory of the season Saturday afternoon, dropping the visiting Smith College Pioneers, 179-117 in Balfour Natatorium. The Lyons enter the semester break with an overall record of 6-1, while the Pioneers dip to 1-1 on the year. Wheaton captured both relay victories in addition to recording wins in eight individual events. Sophomore Cassie Bohn (Manhattan Beach, CA/Mira Costa) was responsible for three of those wins, finishing the 100-yard breaststroke event in 1:13.57. She also completed the 200-yard breaststroke with the top time of 2:38.94 and turned in the best finish in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:23.33. Senior Amanda Berthelette (Milford, NH/Milford) and freshman Abby Pratt (Melrose, MA/Melrose) notched two wins apiece, with Berthelette's victories coming in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events. Her 100-yard finish was best among all competitors at 1:02.86 while her 200-yard victory was timed at 2:19.80. Pratt's wins came in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with times of 25.44 and 1:02.52, respectively. Freshman Meg Miller (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) picked up the Blue and White's other triumph with a 55.81 time in the 100-yard freestyle. In the relay events, Berthelette, Bohn, Pratt and senior Blake Worrall (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) combined for the win in the 200-yard medley, finishing in 1:57.39, while Berthelette, Miller, junior Lauren Pcholinski (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook) and first-year Elizabeth McKay (Brewster, MA/Nauset Regional) nabbed the victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:53.60. The women will return to Balfour Natatorium on Saturday, January 8 for a double-dual meet against Coast Guard and Wellesley College.
