Trio of Wheaton women's quartets captures first at Batterman RelaysNovember 3, 2007 NORTON, MA- A trio of Wheaton College women's swimming and diving relay teams placed first at the Charlie Batterman Relays on Saturday in Balfour Natatorium, as the Lyon men and women took part in a non-scoring meet that included Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Tufts University. The Lyon women captured the top spot in three of the nine relay events, while a pair of foursomes also came in second. Senior Abby Pratt (Melrose, MA/Melrose), sophomores Iris Meehan (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) and Emily Sweatt (Portland, ME/Deering) and freshman Dania Piscetta (Belmont, NH/Belmont) teamed up to win the first competition of the afternoon, the 200-yard medley relay, in 1:54.36. Wheaton also won the final two events. Sweatt led off the 200-yard breaststroke relay before freshmen Stephany Perkins (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth Academy), Alisha Wilson (Cumberland, ME/Greely) and Nicole Zais (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) completed the foursome's first-place showing in a time of 2:13.22. Piscetta, Pratt, Zais and senior Meg Miller (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:42.08. Pratt swam for a pair of runner-up quartets during the 200-yard backstroke and 200-butterfly relays, as Meehan also swam the 200 back and Piscetta was on the 200 fly foursome. On the men's side, the Lyons' 200-yard breaststroke relay team had Wheaton's best showing, placing third. Seniors Matt Hurley (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area) and Matt Jordan (Ellsworth, ME/Ellsworth) were joined during the race by freshmen Eddie Gillie (Haverhill, MA/Saint John's Prep) and Jonathan Gold (West Harrison, NY/Fordham Prep). Both Lyon teams return to action in a double-dual meet next Saturday at New York University at 1:00 p.m., as the United States Coast Guard Academy will also participate.
