Wheaton swim teams split with Roger Williams in season's first road meetNovember 2, 2007 BRISTOL, RI- The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a pair of decisions with host Roger Williams University Friday afternoon during the Lyons' first road meet of the young season. The women improved to 3-0 with a convincing 173-67 triumph, while the men suffered their first setback of the year with a 137-98 loss in moving to 2-1. The Roger Williams men picked up their first victory in three tries, while the women remain winless at 0-3. Freshman Dania Piscetta (Belmont, NH/Belmont) continued her early-season success with a pair of individual triumphs and one relay victory, as the Lyon women captured 10 wins on the night. Piscetta topped the competition in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly events. She also joined sophomores Sarah Houlihan (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield) and Iris Meehan (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) and freshman Nicole Zais (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) on the victorious 400-yard medley relay quartet. Houlihan matched Piscetta as Wheaton's other multiple individual-event winner, as she secured the top times in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. Rounding out the event victors were junior Mandy Cumings (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) in the 200-yard individual medley, sophomore Aurelie Marcotte (Hampden, MA/Minnechaug Regional) in the 200-yard backstroke, and freshmen Kathleen Dwyer (Barrington, RI/Barrington) and Stephany Perkins (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth Academy) in the 1,000-yard free and 200-yard breaststroke, respectively. Dwyer also swam a leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team, siding with seniors Tori Hay (Danville, CA/Monte Vista) and Abby Pratt (Melrose, MA/Melrose) and sophomore Stephanie Conelias (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire). Senior Matt Jordan (Ellsworth, ME/Ellsworth) played a hand in three of the men's seven event wins, capturing top honors in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke races. He also swam leadoff for the meet's fastest 400-yard medley relay squad, teaming up with classmate Matt Hurley (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area) and freshmen Corey Best (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood) and Ben Sabol (Saint Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Prep). Freshman Eddie Gillie (Haverhill, MA/Saint John's Prep) paced the field in the 200-yard individual medley and 1,000-yard freestyle events, Best won the 200-yard butterfly, and classmate Zach Fichman-Klein (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro) picked up top honors in the 100-yard free. The Lyons are back in action tomorrow when they host the Charlie Batterman Relays at 1:00 p.m. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Tufts University are also slated to attend.
