Roberts concludes stellar four-year career with sixth All-America honorMarch 17, 2007
Completing the three-day meet at the University of Houston's Campus Recreation Fitness and Wellness Center Natatorium, Roberts followed up Thursday's fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a second fourth-place mark in today's 100 free. He swam the finals in 45.14 after breaking his own program record in the trials. With a total of 30 points during the meet, Roberts led his team to 29th place, which is the Lyons' top finish during Roberts's four national championship appearances. He also broke his school records in each the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events, including racing to this morning's second-fastest time in the 100 trials at 44.96, which was 0.34 seconds faster than the old program standard. Thursday's time in the 50 free preliminaries and finals both bettered Roberts's program mark. With the record entering the weekend at 20.48, Roberts jetted to a 20.36 finish in the trials and a 20.44 time in the finals. He then tied for 22nd during Friday's 200 event in 1:42.01, bettering his previous school standard by 1.37 seconds. In addition to his six All-America accolades, Roberts earned eight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-League honors during his career. He was also voted NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Year as a junior. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 3/28/07. |
