Sweatt wins three events against NESCAC swimming competitionJanuary 13, 2007 NEW LONDON, CT- The Wheaton College women's swimming and diving team won six events, with freshman Emily Sweatt (Portland, ME/Deering) playing a hand in three, during a double-dual meet against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) competitors Connecticut College and Trinity College on Saturday in Lott Natatorium. The Lyon women split the team decisions, while the Wheaton men fell twice. The Blue and White women moved to 11-3 on the year by downing Trinity, 208-83 after falling to Connecticut College, 179.5-117.5. The Lyons have won six of their last seven dual meets and sit one win shy of matching last year's school record. Wheaton's men, who are now 4-8, fell to the hosts, 209-42 and to Trinity, 190-75. Connecticut College also defeated each of Trinity's teams, 188-103 on the men's side and 231-61 on the women's. Sweatt won both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke competitions, coming within 0.28 seconds of her own 200 record during a 2:31.78 swim. In the 100, she finished in a time of 1:09.97. Sweatt also combined with juniors Meg Miller (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) and Abby Pratt (Melrose, MA/Melrose) and freshman Iris Meehan (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:09.28. Pratt tied with a Connecticut College swimmer for victory in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.21, while sophomore Stacy Zickl (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) earned the top scores in each diving event. During the one-meter dive, Zickl earned 211.05 points before corralling 195.00 in the three-meter dive. For the men, senior All-American Barrett Roberts (Portland, ME/Deering) notched a 50-yard freestyle victory, winning by 0.61 seconds during a 21.47 showing. He was also second in each the 100- and 200-yard free events. Classmate Zach Hicks (Bath, ME/Morse) came in third during the 400-yard individual medley, while junior Matt Jordan (Ellsworth, ME/Ellsworth) was third in the 100-yard butterfly.
