Roberts selected for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I team

May 26, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College junior swimmer Barrett Roberts (Portland, ME/Deering) has been chosen for the ESPN The Magazine Academic College Division All-District I second team for the first time in his career, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

In posting a 3.63 grade point average while pursuing a double major in economics and political science, the Dean's List honoree has become the most decorated swimmer in Wheaton history. Roberts, a co-captain, competed in his third straight NCAA Division III Championship in March, corralling a pair of All-America honorable mention finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events. As a junior, Roberts broke three individual school records and played a hand in four relay standards after gaining All-America status in two events his sophomore year.

During the regular season, Roberts helped the Lyons to a program-record 11 dual wins before guiding the Lyons to a fourth-place finish out of seven teams at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, which Wheaton hosted. Roberts earned three all-conference first team finishes and was named NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year. After also qualifying for all-conference during each his freshman and sophomore years, Roberts earned his second NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selection this winter.

The District I College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

To be nominated for the Academic-All America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
