Roberts garners ECAC Swimmer-of-the-Week accolades

February 8, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's swimming standout Barrett Roberts (Portland, ME/Deering) was selected Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Swimmer of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, February 5.

The junior All-American stretched his winning streak to 20 events thanks to three wins at last weekend's non-scoring Middlebury College Invitational. He set a pool record and met an NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying standard by winning the 50-yard freestyle in 21.23, which was within 0.43 seconds of his own school mark.

Roberts also secured the top mark in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.22, just 0.44 ticks off an NCAA provisional qualifying standard. He then anchored the 200-yard medley relay team to victory in 1:37.28 thanks to a final leg of 20.57.

Concluding the regular season at Middlebury, Roberts and the Wheaton squad have enjoyed a historic season thus far, as the Lyons not only set a program record with 11 victories but also established their highest winning percentage in school history at 11-3. The Wheaton men will conclude their campaign hosting the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship in Balfour Natatorium on February 24-26.
