Wheaton's Jordan earns first ECAC Swimmer-of-the-Week honor

January 11, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's swimming standout Matt Jordan (Ellsworth, ME/Ellsworth) was selected Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Co-Swimmer of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, January 8. It was the first such honor for Jordan, who shared the award with Williams College freshman Norman Scott.

The sophomore won a pair of individual events on Saturday, helped a relay team to victory, placed second in another race and accounted for 33 of the Lyons' 105 points during a loss to Coast Guard.

Jordan recorded his largest win in the 200-yard individual medley, as his time of 2:06.00 was 5.35 seconds faster than the next swimmer. He took first in the 100-yard backstroke thanks to a time of 54.90, 2.04 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, and helped the 200-yard medley relay foursome to a victory in 1:38.60. During the 100-yard butterfly, Jordan finished 1.39 seconds behind the first-place finisher with a time of 55.66.

Thus far this season, Jordan has helped the 12-member Wheaton squad, which is devoid of any divers, to a 6-2 dual record as well as a pair of third-place invitational finishes. The Lyons travel to Brandeis University this evening for a 6:00 p.m. dual meet.
