Lyon swim teams record solid finishes at Batterman RelaysNovember 5, 2005 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's swimming and diving team finished third and the men placed in a tie for third at the four-team Charlie Batterman Relays on Saturday at Balfour Natatorium. Wheaton's and Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) men recorded 72 points to place behind Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) 122 points and Tufts University's 118. The Lyon women netted 78 points, trailing MIT's 134 points and Tufts' 128 points. The WPI women registered 72 points. The women's 200-yard butterfly team provided Wheaton's lone win on the afternoon, finishing in a time of 1:54.83. Seniors Courtney Catalano (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) and Ashley Jankowski (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln), junior Colleen Smith (Milford, CT/Lauralton Hall) and sophomore Abby Pratt (Melrose, MA/Melrose) teamed up for the victory. Catalano helped the 500-yard freestyle foursome place second, as she was joined by senior Lauren Pcholinski (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook) and freshmen Mandy Cumings (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) and Casey Shanley (Rumson, NJ/Suffield Academy). On the men's side, juniors Matt Hurley (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area) and Barrett Roberts (Portland, ME/Deering) and sophomore Matt Jordan (Ellsworth, ME/Ellsworth) were instrumental in a pair of second-place finishes. The trio was joined by sophomore Joe Fowler (Farmington, ME/Mount Blue) in the 200-yard backstroke, as the team came in just 1.36 seconds behind the winning squad. Hurley, Roberts, Jordan and freshman Chris Romilly (Washington, DC/Saint Albans) placed second in the 200-yard medley.
