Wheaton's Roberts qualifies for second NCAA Swimming Championship

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College sophomore standout Barrett Roberts (Portland, ME/Deering) has qualified for his second consecutive NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship. Roberts, who became the school's first swimmer in the 14-year history of the program to compete at a national championship as a freshman, will be in action at the Holland Community Aquatics Center at Hope College in Holland, Michigan on Thursday, March 17 to Saturday, March 19.

Ranked fourth on the entry list in the 50-yard freestyle, Roberts will also compete in the 100-yard free and possibly the 200-yard free event. The 50-yard free will take place on Thursday, March 17 and Roberts will see his first action at the trials beginning at 11:00 a.m. Roberts posted a personal-best time of 20.80 in the 50 free at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, leading his team to its best placement in the seven-year history of the conference. That performance also broke the NEWMAC Championship record and NEWMAC open mark.

Roberts picked up a pair of NEWMAC All-Conference awards with his finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, giving him three conference accolades in his brief career. At the NEWMAC meet, Roberts not only broke a trio of individual school records in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard free races but also anchored four relay teams to new school marks in the 200- and 400-yard medley relay and 200- and 400-yard free relay events. In two short seasons, Roberts has contributed to eight Wheaton records.
