Alvarez's standout offensive showing leads to weekly accolades from D3Kicks.com and NEWMACOctober 1, 2007
Only a freshman, Alvarez continued to lead the nationally-ranked Lyons in scoring thanks to her eight-point week. She assisted both second-half scores during Wheaton's 2-1 victory at regional rival Amherst College on Wednesday. The Lyons trailed, 1-0 before Alvarez notched assists during the 84th and 87th minutes to help Wheaton come from behind. On Saturday, the forward exploded for three goals in a 6:28 span as the Blue and White cruised to a 7-1 triumph over Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Becoming the first Lyon to net a natural hat trick since 2005, Alvarez scored at 1:41, 3:16 and 8:09. Alvarez leads Wheaton with 10 tallies, 22 points and three game-winning goals. Playing in all 11 games while starting in nine, she has had a hand in at least one goal in seven contests. Alvarez recorded multiple points in each of those games and multiple goals in three matches. Ranked seventh in the country and first in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the Lyons are 10-0-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. Wheaton is unbeaten in its last 78 conference games and 26 regular season contests.
