Wheaton women's soccer awarded NSCAA Team Ethics accolade

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's soccer team was one of 59 college teams from around the country to earn the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Team Ethics Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

Earning the award for the third straight year, the Lyons were one of 40 teams to claim silver honors for receiving zero red cards and a maximum of five yellow cards. Eligible squads are men's and women's teams from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA and NCCAA, and the honorees are selected by the NSCAA's Ethics Committee. Wheaton was the lone representative of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Wheaton went 22-1-1 overall and advanced to their eighth straight NCAA Tournament under 11th-year head coach Luis Reis. Ranked 12th in the final NSCAA national poll, the Lyons captured their ninth consecutive NEWMAC regular season championship and ninth conference tournament title in program history, including their seventh NEWMAC crown in eight years. Wheaton carries the longest active league unbeaten streak in NCAA soccer, an 88-game stretch spanning back to the 2000 season.
