Women's soccer draws NSCAA academic honor for seventh straight year

December 6, 2007

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's soccer program earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the seventh consecutive season as one of 296 women's squads from all levels of the NCAA, NAIA and junior college ranks to draw the honor for the 2006-07 academic year.

Each team will be honored at the 61st annual NSCAA convention on January 16-20 in Baltimore. Wheaton, which was one of nine Division III schools from New England to qualify, also succeeded on the field, going 22-1-1 and appearing in an NCAA Tournament for the eighth straight season.

Three Lyons who played a hand in Wheaton receiving the team accolade were individually honored for academic success this fall. Senior tri-captain Erin Davis (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) landed on the ESPN The Magazine Academic College Division All-District I second team after receiving third-team laurels each of the prior two years. Two players qualified for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team, as junior Jessie Landau (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) drew her second honor and sophomore Kathleen Carroll (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz Central) nabbed her first.
