Davis corrals weekly honors from D3Kicks.com and NEWMAC

October 22, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's soccer standout Erin Davis (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) drew accolades from both D3Kicks.com and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for the week ending on Sunday, October 21. The senior back was one of 11 players from around the nation named to the D3Kicks.com Team of the Week, and she earned her second career NEWMAC Player-of-the-Week honor, having also drawn the citation following the 2006 NEWMAC Tournament.

Davis helped the nationally-ranked Lyons go 3-0 last week and clinch at least a share of their ninth straight NEWMAC regular season title by scoring one game-winning goal, assisting on another and anchoring a defense that yielded 16 shots and no goals in 270 minutes of action.

Against visiting Babson College on Tuesday, Davis played all 90 minutes and helped the Lyons blank the Beavers, 1-0, as Wheaton allowed just 11 shots to a team averaging more than two goals. She tallied the game-winning marker during a 3-0 victory over Gordon College on Thursday, netting a penalty-kick goal during the 57th minute as the Lyons held the Fighting Scots to four shots. In Wheaton's 6-0 win against Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on Saturday, Davis assisted the first and third goals while the Blue and White yielded only one shot.

Davis has anchored a stingy backfield for Wheaton, which is ranked seventh nationally and second in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Lyons have yielded just seven goals in 18 games and 7.2 shots per contest while blanking 12 opponents and holding five others to a lone tally.

Wheaton, which is 17-0-1 overall and 8-0 in NEWMAC play, has received three penalty-kick goals and a career-high eight assists from Davis, who surpassed her prior season's best with 14 points. The 2006 NSCAA All-America selection has appeared in 16 games, making 15 starts.

The Lyons close their regular season slate on Tuesday at Mount Holyoke College with a 4:00 p.m. contest before hosting a NEWMAC Tournament first-round game on Saturday. Top-seeded Wheaton will host the eighth seed at 1:00 p.m. in Mirrione Stadium.
