McManus draws weekly women's soccer honor from NEWMACSeptember 24, 2007
McManus played a hand as Wheaton went 2-0 last week and extended its NEWMAC unbeaten streak to 77 games, the second longest in NCAA soccer history regardless of division or gender. During a rematch of the 2006 NEWMAC Tournament final, the Lyons picked up a 3-0 win on Saturday at Smith College behind McManus' game-winner in the 14th minute. McManus' goal was her first this year and stood as her second career winner. The Blue and White downed visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday. A defender, McManus helped Wheaton, which is ranked 11th nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and is tied for first in New England, yield one goal on only 18 shots in nearly 200 minutes of action last week. Wheaton leads the NEWMAC with 29 goals while yielding just three goals in nine games for a conference-best 0.32 goals against average. At 8-0-1, including 1-0 in the league, the Lyons have blanked six teams and travel to Amherst College on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. contest. The Lord Jeffs are ranked sixth in the region, and Wheaton looks to avenge its loss to Amherst in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
