Davis becomes Wheaton women's soccer's third All-America back, helps Lyons earn 11th national honor in last eight years

December 8, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's soccer standout Erin Davis (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) became the program's third different defensive player in as many years to be named to a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas NCAA Division III All-America team. The junior back, who was selected to the second squad, was one of just three New England players tabbed to the first and second teams.

As the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) lone selection, Davis' honor represents the eighth straight season in which Wheaton placed an athlete on an All-America team. The seventh Lyon women's soccer player to garner All-America accolades, Davis was also voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I third team. Regional awards came from the NSCAA, New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) and D3Kicks.com. She was also voted to the all-conference first team.

One of just two players to start all 24 games in the fall, Wheaton's co-captain anchored a backfield which allowed just 15 goals in 2,180 minutes for a 0.62 goals against average. Helping lead the Lyons to 15 shutouts, Davis and the Wheaton defense limited opponents to one goal or less 19 times. She also contributed on the offensive end of the field, supplying the Lyons with two goals, seven assists and the game-winner in the conference championship game. Davis was a major offensive factor down the stretch, tallying points in five of Wheaton's final six games.

Davis has been a fixture in the Lyons' backfield the last three seasons, starting 73 of a possible 75 games. The Blue and White has gone 62-8-5 during that time, including a 21-2-1 record last fall. Davis has contributed to a defense that has allowed just 42 goals in 6,878:34 during the first three years of her career, good for a 0.55 GAA. Wheaton has shut out 54 opponents, including an NCAA Division III record 22 in 2004. Offensively, Davis has tallied five career goals, 18 assists and 28 points.

Wheaton finished the year ranked 19th in the nation according to the NSCAA, posting 20-plus wins for the seventh time in eight seasons. The Lyons claimed their eighth straight regular season conference championship and sixth NEWMAC Tournament title while extending the second-longest league unbeaten streak in NCAA history to 76 games.

The NSCAA/adidas All-America teams are determined through voting by NSCAA member coaches. The honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-America luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, January 13 as part of the 60th annual NSCAA convention in Indianapolis.
