Wheaton's Davis earns second straight academic all-district accoladeNovember 2, 2006
During the past two seasons, the junior co-captain has started 69 of a possible 71 games in the backfield for Wheaton, which has posted a 60-7-4 mark over that time, including a 19-1 record this year. She also helped the nationally-ranked Lyons complete their sixth consecutive undefeated season in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and record their eighth straight regular season conference title. Wheaton, which is ranked 10th in the nation and second regionally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), enters this weekend's NEWMAC Tournament semifinals riding a 74-game unbeaten streak against conference foes, the second-longest in NCAA history. Davis has helped the Lyons go 31-0-3 against NEWMAC opponents during her career and post a 0.29 goals against average. Davis holds a 3.23 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in pre-med and Spanish with a chemistry minor. She has been a resident adviser and member of the Latino Student Association at Wheaton while also earning Dean's List honors. On the field, Davis contributes to a defense that has surrendered just 37 goals in 6,498:34 of action during her career, good for a 0.51 goals against average. The Lyons have also posted 52 shutouts during that time, including an NCAA Division III record 22 in 2004. After providing 11 assists and three goals over her first two seasons, Davis has notched five assists and a goal this fall. She has lent a hand on the game-winning goal in each of Wheaton's last two wins, including a NEWMAC Tournament first round victory on Saturday. The District I College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
