Wheaton women's 4x400-meter relay quartet qualifies for finals during day one of NCAA Championship

May 22, 2008

OSHKOSH, WI- The Wheaton College women's outdoor track and field team's 4x400-meter relay foursome qualified for the finals by virtue of its trials performance on Thursday at day one of the three-day NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship in the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh's Titan Stadium.

Juniors Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) and Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) and sophomores Kelly Libert (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse) and Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) each ran a leg for the 4x400M relay quartet, which placed third in its five-team heat with a time of 3:49.86. Nine squads will compete in the finals, which takes place on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. Three of the four Lyons have captured All-America finishes during their careers, requiring a top-eight showing in the finals. Ezeigwe has drawn six honors, Jules and Thompson nabbed two apiece, and Libert seeks her first.

Ezeigwe, who was aiming for an opportunity to earn an All-America finish in the 200-meter dash for the second straight season, placed fourth in her six-athlete trials heat in 25.09. The showing left her 0.15 seconds shy of the last of nine finals qualifiers.

Three Lyons compete tomorrow during the second day of competition, with freshman Erin Neville (North Providence, RI/La Salle Academy) kicking things off in the high jump at 4:00 p.m. Neville earned All-America status during the indoor season and seeks to become the first Wheaton freshman to be an outdoor All-American in a field event since 2004. Thompson will take part in the 400-meter dash trials at 5:20 p.m., while Ezeigwe continues a busy week during the 100M trials at 5:50 p.m.
