Jamiel takes sixth out of 21 competitors in Holy Cross heptathlonApril 17, 2008 WORCESTER, MA- Wheaton College women's outdoor track and field junior Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) placed sixth among 21 competitors in the heptathlon as the two-day College of the Holy Cross Multi-Event Meet came to close on Thursday at the Hart Recreation Center. Jamiel scored a personal-record 3,868 points while coming within 143 points of the nine-year-old school standard. Jamiel was joined by 20 additional athletes, including 11 from Division I, as the remaining nine were Division III counterparts. She was third among D-III competitors, finishing 114 points shy of the top finisher from the division. Overall, University of Hartford's Latasha Jarrett won the meet with 4,218 points. Jamiel placed among the top 12 in each of the seven events, winning the 100-meter hurdles during the opening competition in a time of 16.16. She also notched a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a distance of 99' 2" for her second top-five finish. Jamiel came in eighth during both the 200-meter dash, at 27.71, and the shot put, with a throw of 28' 2 3/4". She was 10th in the long jump, 11th during the 800-meter run and 12th in the high jump. Wheaton's teams return to action on Saturday at the Coed Invitational, which begins at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at 12:00 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
