Pair of Wheaton women prepare for NCAA Track and Field Championship

May 23, 2006

NORTON, MA- Junior Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) and freshman Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) are slated to represent the Wheaton College women's outdoor track and field team at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship this weekend at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. The three-day competition begins Thursday at Benedictine's new Sports Complex.

Harlow, the national high jump champion during the indoor season, was an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship in the high jump thanks to a 5' 7 1/4" leap on April 27 at the Penn Relays. Her jump is tied for fourth in the nation entering the meet, and Harlow is slated to be one of four New England competitors in the event. A two-time indoor All-American, Harlow last earned outdoor All-America status as a freshman in 2004.

After garnering All-America accolades in the 400-meter dash during the indoor national championship, Ezeigwe has qualified to compete in the 200M and 400M events at the outdoor NCAA meet. Both of her qualifying times came on March 17 during her first collegiate outdoor competition at San Diego State University. Ezeigwe's time of 56.04 in the 400M was seventh in the nation and the top time in New England, while her 24.85 showing in the 200M was the second-best time in the region and places her 13th entering the NCAA Championship.

Freshman Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington), a two-time All-American during the indoor season, qualified for the outdoor national meet in the 110-meter hurdles but will not compete due to injury. Cunha recorded a qualifying time of 14.76 on April 15 to set a school mark.

Ezeigwe kicks off the competition for the three-time national champion Lyons when the 200-meter dash trials begin at 6:10 p.m. on Thursday. The high jump competition is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, with the 400M trials beginning at 4:20 p.m. Should Ezeigwe qualify, the 400M finals commence at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, and the 200M finals kick off at 3:35 p.m.
