Despite having a small portion of its teams compete, the women managed 35 points, good for a tie for 10th place among 28 scoring squads, while the men tallied 17 points and placed 18th out of 26 scoring teams. Williams College captured both team titles. The Wheaton women recorded five top-five marks, led by a trio of runner-up finishes from junior Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate), sophomore Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) and freshman Erin Neville (North Providence, RI/La Salle Academy). Jamiel accumulated 3,717 points in the heptathlon, Thompson fell just 0.06 ticks shy of first in the 400-meter dash in 58.11, while Neville was two inches off the top mark in the high jump at 5' 3". Juniors Christine Moreau (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) and Celeste Karpow (Wilton, CT/Wilton) occupied two of the top five spots during the 400-meter hurdles event, taking fourth and fifth, respectively. Freshman Laurenmaria Smith (Providence, RI/Hope) raced to a fourth-place time in the 100M dash in the trials before settling for eighth in the finals. Classmate Diana Kornberg (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) also took eighth in the discus to complete Wheaton's scoring. For the men, sophomore Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) was dominant in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the event with an NCAA national meet provisional qualifying time of 14.78, which was 0.51 faster than the next competitor. He also paced the field during the preliminaries. Freshman Marcus Kohlman (Milton, MA/Milton) matched the meet's second-best height in the high jump before placing fourth overall at 6' 2 3/4". Junior Albi Skenderi (Glendale, NY/Grover Cleveland) rounded out the Lyon scoring with a seventh-place result in the 400-meter hurdles. The Wheaton teams continue the championship portion of their season next weekend at the All New England Championship. The two-day meet at the University of New Hampshire is set to begin on Friday.
