March 19, 2005

LONG BEACH, CA- The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened their spring seasons at the Long Beach Classic Saturday afternoon, as the Lyons sent close to 30 athletes to Long Beach State University's Jack Rose Track. The women placed sixth overall among the nine competing teams and the men finished ninth in the 10-team field.

Sophomore Crystal Blamy (Walpole, NH/Fall Mountain Regional) led the women with a NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying height of 5' 5" in the high jump. She posted a sixth-place finish in the event, while freshman Julie McLane (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) wasn't far from a provisional qualifying mark in the 100-meter hurdles. McLane took fifth overall with a time of 15.55.

Wheaton's 4x400-meter relay team, fresh off last weekend's NCAA All-America performance at the indoor national championship meet, placed sixth in today's competition. McLane joined senior captains Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) and Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) as well as first-year Chelsea Nader (Ardmore, PA/Lower Menan) in the race.

Rounding out the women's top performances included freshman Megan Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) taking eighth in the 5,000-meter run, Wallace and first-year Cassandra Migani (Brooklyn, CT/Norwich Free Academy) ninth in the high jump and javelin throw, respectively, and Nader, McLane and senior Marcie Howard (Ascutney, VT/Windsor) 10th in the 400-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles and pole vault events, respectively.

For the men, junior captain Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) registered a pair of top-six finishes, placing fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.71 and sixth in the 200-meter dash in 22.36. Freshman Kyle Judkins (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) captured ninth place in the pole vault, while classmate Pat Benson (Foxboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) was 10th in the 5,000-meter run.
