Lyons send group of athletes to MIT's Last Chance Qualifier meet

CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had one final attempt to qualify some of their athletes for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships Saturday afternoon at MIT, as the Lyons competed in the Last Chance Qualifier meet held at Steinbrenner Track. There were no team scores kept at the meet.

Freshman Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) continued her stellar spring campaign, this time in the high jump with an NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying jump of 5' 6". Finishing second in the meet, Harlow's performance should be strong enough to advance her to next weekend's national meet at Millikin University.

Other field competitors for the women included junior Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) and freshman Crystal Blamy (Walpole, NH/Fall Mountain View) in the high jump and first-year Katelyn Teixeira (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) in the javelin.

On the track, junior Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) competed in the 400-meter dash, while freshman Alison Amendola (Franklin, MA/Franklin) ran in the 200-meter dash. Allegra, Amendola, Harlow and sophomore Oly Wirtz (Fitchburg, MA/Fitchburg) sided in the 4x100-meter relay and sophomore Kendra Leith (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) competed in the 5,000-meter run.

For the men, junior Dan Olson (Voorheesville, NY/Albany Academy), who currently boasts the nation's top high jump, registered a national meet provisional qualifying standard of 6' 7". Classmate Chris Wilbur (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) competed in the javelin.

Rounding out the list of male competitors for Wheaton were juniors Stan Pyle (South Portland, ME/South Portland) and Jamaal Rawls-Payton (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) in the 1,500-meter run and 110-meter hurdle events, respectively and sophomore Eric Richardson (Walpole, MA/Bishop Feehan) in the 5,000-meter run.
