Men's Soccer (15-3-1, 4-1) Stretches Win Streak to Four, Claims NEWMAC's Second Seed

The Wheaton College men's soccer team, which is receiving votes from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and ranked fourth in the New England poll, went 2-0 for the second straight week, notching a 2-0 win over Worcester State College on Wednesday before clipping Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 2-1 on Saturday in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. With one game left, the Lyons have claimed the second seed in the league tournament and will host a NEWMAC Tournament contest for the 10th time in 11 seasons.

The Blue and White has posted nine shutouts, its most since recording 10 in 2005, and yielded a total of four goals in the last 863:57 over 10 games. The Lyons' 15 wins are their most since 2004 and tie for the sixth-highest total in program history.

Junior Josh Solomon (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) buried a penalty kick in the 56th minute for the winner against visiting Worcester State, and freshman Cecil Jeffrey (Framingham, MA/Rivers School) followed with his first collegiate marker in the 61st minute. Junior keeper Cole Davidson (Needham, MA/Salisbury School) made two saves for the shutout.

Against visiting MIT, the Lyons downed a team that knocked them out of the 2008 NEWMAC Tournament thanks to freshman Max Swanson's (Lexington, MA/Lexington) pair of markers. The striker, who doubled his season total entering the game, scored in the 11th minute off a touch from Solomon before converting Jeffrey's pass in the 51st minute to make it 2-0. Davidson earned the win.

Junior Yuri Moreira (Marlboro, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon School) is fourth in program history in career goals (32) and ninth in points (70), while Solomon is tied for sixth in assists (22). Davidson is fifth in wins (25), shutouts (14) and minutes (3,942:53) and sixth in saves (155), while junior Chris Smart (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) is seventh in victories (13). Moreira is tied for fifth in a single season in goals (13), while Davidson is sixth in shutouts (7) and tied for eighth in wins (11).
