Women's Soccer (13-2-1, 4-1-1) Goes 1-0-1 in NEWMAC, Sits Tied for Second in League

The Wheaton College women's soccer team, which is ranked fifth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), posted a 1-0-1 mark last week in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) home games, downing Babson College, 1-0 in overtime on Tuesday before playing to a scoreless draw with first-place Clark University on Saturday. With three league contests remaining, Wheaton stands in a three-way tie for second place in the NEWMAC. Eight teams make the postseason tournament, while the top four host first-round games.

Freshman Cassey Muse (Candia, NH/Central) scored 1:10 into overtime against Babson, which was tied for sixth in the regional poll, to run Wheaton's series unbeaten streak to 16 games. Senior Lyndsey McManus (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) assisted the winner, while sophomore Lindsay Leddy (Warwick, RI/Wheeler School) made three saves in recording the shutout.

Against Clark, the Lyons held advantages of 23-9 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks, but the Cougars, who are tied for 10th in New England, took the tie to remain first in the NEWMAC standings. Leddy notched one save, denying a point-blank opportunity in the opening half.

Junior Emily Hough (Norwich, VT/Hanover) is eighth in program history in career points (89), tied for eighth in assists (31) and stands 10th in goals (29). Leddy is tied for third in shutouts (15), ranks fifth in wins (25) and stands seventh in minutes (3,167:27). With 12 wins and five shutouts this season, Leddy is tied for 10th in a single season at Wheaton in both categories.
