Catherine Teague
NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's tennis junior Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) picked up her fourth New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) award of the season, as she was selected singles player of the week for the week ending on Sunday, October 11.
Teague, who was honored by the conference for singles play once earlier this fall and twice in doubles, won all three of her singles matches during Wheaton's 3-0 week, blanking two opponents while leading the Lyons past a pair of Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regionally-ranked squads.
At second singles, Teague began the week by posting a 6-3, 6-1 victory on Tuesday in Wheaton's 6-3 win over 15th-ranked Babson College. She then shut out both of her opponents over the weekend, downing a foe from Clark University in the Lyons' 9-0 triumph on Saturday and an opponent from 20th-ranked Colby College during Wheaton's 6-3 win the next day.
Ranked 15th regionally, Teague extended her winning streak to seven matches, having not suffered a loss during a dual match since September 9. She leads the team in singles wins with an 11-2 mark, including a 10-1 record in dual matches, while going 13-1 in doubles play.
Wheaton, which is ranked 12th in the Northeast with an overall record of 10-2 and league mark of 5-1, can clinch at least a share of its first regular season league title with a victory tomorrow at regionally-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at 4:00 p.m. The Engineers stand 11th in the Northeast.
