Chesky draws league honor for second straight week, earns singles nod

NORTON, MA- A week after earning the first league doubles honor of her career, Wheaton College women's tennis sophomore Rosalyn Chesky (South Hadley, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Academy) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, October 4.
Chesky went 2-0 during a 1-1 week in NEWMAC play for Wheaton. In the Lyons' 7-2 victory on Tuesday against Wellesley College, which snapped the five-time defending league tournament champion Blue's 47-match conference winning streak, Chesky posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the sixth slot for the fourth team point. While playing one position higher on Saturday, Chesky notched a 6-3, 6-0 win against her fifth-singles foe during a 6-3 loss at Smith College.
At 8-1, Chesky is tied for the team lead in singles victories while holding the top winning percentage of .889. During doubles action, Chesky has gone 7-2 while pairing with four different opponents. In last week's action, Chesky sided with her regular partner for an 8-5 victory in the third spot against Wellesley before moving to number one and registering an 8-2 win at Smith.
Wheaton stands 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the NEWMAC, as the Lyons are ranked 12th in the Northeast by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Blue and White hosts Babson College in a league match on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
