Men's Tennis (0-0) Hosts Wheaton Invitational During First Competition of School Year
The Wheaton College men's tennis team opened the school year by hosting its annual Wheaton Invitational on Sunday, when juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) captured the top doubles title.
The five-team invitational was comprised of one Division I school, one Division II institution and a trio of Division III squads. Altman and Poulin downed a duo from Division I College of the Holy Cross in the semifinals before knocking off a tandem from Division II Merrimack College to claim the championship match. In the second doubles flight, senior Chapman Beekman (South Kingstown, RI/South Kingstown) and junior Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) won the consolation crown. During singles action, senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) knocked off a Division I foe and two Division II opponents in advancing to the final, where he came up short against a Division I competitor. During consolation play, sophomore Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) defeated senior teammate James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) in the championship match.
