Men's Lacrosse (4-6, 4-1) Wins Both Pilgrim League Games, Clinches Postseason Berth

The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team clinched a spot in the Pilgrim League Tournament with a pair of home conference victories last week, as the Lyons qualified for the postseason in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1997 and 1998. On Wednesday, the Blue and White knocked off Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 18-8 before defeating Norwich University, 16-4 on Saturday. The Lyons are tied for second in the league with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Wheaton win over the Engineers on Wednesday would clinch the Lyons a tournament semifinal home game.

Against the Buccaneers, Wheaton led 11-1 by halftime. Freshman Mike Harrington (Sturbridge, MA/Bancroft School) scored four markers, junior Warren Garceau (Guilford, CT/Canterbury School) added a hat trick, and first-year Billy McNamara (Mansfield, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon School) tacked on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) collected two goals and a helper, classmate Bobby Barry (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) scored twice, and junior Drew Schaffer (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) recorded five assists. Freshman David Schroeder (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) tallied his initial college goal, and junior Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) made 10 saves. Garceau went 8-for-8 on face-offs, while senior Jeff Gomer (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) was 13-for-13.

Nine players scored against Norwich, as sophomore Chris Landers (Manchester, MA/Proctor Academy) led the way with five goals. Cederberg and McNamara each totaled a pair of goals and three helpers, while Harrington notched two goals and two assists. Senior Chris Gogan-Tilstone (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) tallied his first collegiate marker in his first season playing for the Lyons, while Horn made nine saves. Junior Andrew Brunhofer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and freshman Charlie Willauer (Duxbury, MA/Proctor Academy) each won a team-high four face-offs.

Gomer is first in program history in career ground balls (249) and stands second in face-off wins (375). Senior Marco Barbone (Newton, MA/Newton North) is third in games (58), sitting three shy of Richie Rasamny's '08 record, while Horn is fourth in saves (310) and Schaffer is 10th in assists (40).
