Mickey Jusme
NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's track & field freshman Mickey Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical) picked up weekly awards from both the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for the week ending on Sunday, April 19.
Becoming the first Lyon to be named NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Week, Jusme was lauded with ECAC field honors for the fourth time in her young career, as she earned indoor accolades on three occasions in a four-week span.
Jusme surpassed NCAA national meet provisional standards in the long and triple jumps while leading the Lyons to a third-place mark at Saturday's Springfield College Invitational. Her distance of 39′ 4″ during a second-place showing in the triple jump was half an inch shy of automatic qualification for NCAAs and exceeded the previous top distance in the nation.
Jusme also won the 18-athlete long jump competition at 18′ 4 1/4″ while running a leg on the victorious 4×100-meter relay team, which finished in 48.79 and was 0.14 seconds shy of an NCAA provisional time.
Wheaton returns to the western side of the state next Saturday for the NEWMAC Championship at Mount Holyoke College at 11:00 a.m. The defending-champion Lyons will compete for their 12th league title.
