NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team took a 1-0 lead 1:33 in and trailed 3-2 early in Tuesday's first half against Amherst College before suffering its first home loss of the season, a 14-6 setback on Keefe Field. During the game, Lyon senior Caitlin Grant (Walpole, MA/Walpole) hit a career milestone by reaching 100 points with two assists.

Falling for the first time at Keefe in six games this spring, the Lyons slip to 5-4, while the Lord Jeffs, who came into today's action receiving national votes by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), improved to 6-3.

After senior Bridget Thornton (Southington, CT/Cheshire Academy) provided what turned out to be Wheaton's lone lead of the game at 28:27 of the opening half, Amherst senior Amy Craig (Denver, CO/George Washington), who ripped off seven goals to lead all scorers, knotted the game just 58 seconds later.

Two more Lord Jeff goals 1:09 apart made the score 3-1 before Thornton's second tally brought the hosts to within one at 22:44. Craig began a four-goal spurt that put Amherst comfortably in front at 7-2 with just under 12 minutes to go before the intermission. Freshman Lindsey Moran (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) capped the run with two goals, while junior Hannah Walker (Greenwich, CT/Convent of the Sacred Heart) had two assists to finish with three in the half. Walker also found the back of the net with 16 ticks on the clock while pushing the visitors to a 9-3 halftime advantage.

Only two goals transpired through the opening 16-plus minutes of the second stanza, both by Craig, who extended the Amherst advantage to 11-3 by 16:11. Senior Madeline Williams (Annapolis, MD/Key School) cut Wheaton's deficit to 11-4 at 13:28 before the Lord Jeffs tacked on two more for a 13-4 cushion with 10:41 to play.

The Lyons scored two of the game's final three goals in the last 4:14, with senior Abbie Sherwin (Rye, NH/Portsmouth) and freshman Courtney Gleason (Newtown, CT/Newtown) finishing off passes from Grant. Sophomore goalie Marianna Marcellino (Milton, MA/Thayer Academy) turned aside 11 shots in the loss.

After Craig's seven tallies, Moran, senior Mary Noonan (West Roxbury, MA/Winsor School) and sophomore Kelley Trapp (Monterey, CA/Santa Catalina) recorded two goals each, with Trapp adding an assist, while Walker finished with one goal and three helpers. Sophomore Robyn Lightner (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) also added three assists. Freshman Lamia Harik (Rye Brook, NY/Hackley School) earned the win in net after logging over 46 minutes.
